Stonington Island, located in Marguerite Bay along the Antarctic Peninsula, is home to one of the most historically rich sites on the continent—the Stonington Island Hut. This wooden structure, known as Base E, was built by the British in 1946 and used for scientific research and exploration until the 1970s. The island also hosted the U.S. East Base during the 1939–41 United States Antarctic Service Expedition. Today, the hut stands preserved in the icy landscape, offering a rare glimpse into the challenging conditions early Antarctic explorers faced.
